OUR YEAR IN REVIEW

2023 was an incredible year for CHARTHOUSE! We have had the incredible opportunity to work with some fantastic filmmakers on a TV Show (Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction Season 6), we got to watch the final cut of Riley (coming soon), and we got to enjoy the fruits of our labor by watching our film First Time Caller screen at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Additionally, we were able to work with our amazing Non-Profit and commercial clients on some very important and impactful projects. We had two amazing interns this year, and we have been fortunate to continue growing with the incredible community around us. Scroll below to enjoy some of our favorite moments from the year!

ANDREW LANE

“Charthouse is about empowering the creative and giving purpose to our filmmaking endeavors. In everything we do, we strive to embody our ideals and over-deliver on our scope. Each project has presented its own challenges, and along with it has allowed us the opportunity to push CHARTHOUSE to the next level. We look forward to what next year has to offer for our team and our collaborators.”

Our 2023 Reflection

In 2023, it felt like Charthouse was in the arena, in the octagon, slugging it out. Nothing felt easy, wins seemed hard to come by; plus, despite all that effort, it felt like we were moving in slow motion or at worst: backwards. BUT, as we reflect at years-end and take stock of all that we accomplished and we realize that this perception is actually due to the stroboscopic effect, aka wagon wheel effect. The visual phenomena when a fast spinning object seems to the viewer to be standing still or only revolving slowly.

In actuality, at Charthouse, things are moving at breakneck speed, uncomfortably so if we are honest. We ARE making headway.

For those individuals and organizations trying to make their mark on the world or achieve in anything, they know how dark and lonely it can be, particularly when you’re medium touches in the realm of the creative. In the darkness, we look around, and feel stuck, nothing is working, and seemingly everyone else is achieving and experiencing success: financially, organizationally, and creatively.

We wonder: what are we doing? Did we make a mistake choosing this path, stepping into the ring, taking these risks…? There are definitely easier ways to make a living. We all know that “comparison is the thief of joy” and we must admit at times this year things have not been fun, and that “the joy” feels sucked right out of the room.

In that darkness, in that false feeling of inertia, in the joyless moments we take solace in two things.

One: at Charthouse we know what it means to “dare greatly” that in the end we will KNOW that we stepped forward into that unknown space, courageously. We will all collectively go to bed at night knowing that we took huge risks, followed our passion, and at worst, failed. But in failure, we learn, and many times we get the opportunity to try… and maybe again.

Two: that “the best way out is always through.” Meaning that we are in the throws of it right now, in the tempest, but that by persisting forward the hope of success, of great impact and high achievement, remains real. Only when we quit is that candle snuffed out.

2023 at Charthouse has been a huge year. We are in it right now. Whatever it is. Take heart.

We had some kickass interns, yet again!

Lily Maus, Notre Dame Class of 2025

Lily joined us for the summer, learned start to finish how to make a short film, helped organize camera equipment in our equipment room, played a nun in Kid from Juvie, and got to be a production assistant on Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.

Josh Fairmont, University of Colorado class of 2024

Josh Fairmont also joined us for the summer, became a production assistant on Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, helped out on Kid from Juvie, and (pictured above) learned the basics on operating a Steadicam!

Some Photo Memories from the Year!

TOMMY ANDERSON

“When I reflect on the year, I think about hard work paying off, the amazing relationships we got to build or continue building, and the insane amount of support we’ve received from friends, family, and collaborators. It takes a lot of time, effort, and energy to chase this dream of ours, and we have been blessed to be surrounded by the most incredible people that help us reach the next level in this industry.”

SOME OF OUR YEAR’S WORK

Riley Teaser.

We are thrilled to be able to share a short snippet of a project that has been years in the making. This film, written and directed by Benjamin Howard, has been making the rounds at big festivals, and raising lots of eyebrows. We are working our way through the distribution process, and will be sure to keep everyone updated when and where the film is available to watch! For now, get hyped with the teaser trailer!

JONATHAN AUSTIN

“2023 was a year of reflection following significant investment in 2022. It was a year that pushed us and revealed not only our capabilities but also areas where we can continue pushing the envelope. The lessons learned and growth experienced will undoubtedly fortify us as we continue to chart the course.”

September 10, 2023

Our film First Time Caller played at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Our Retreat

We went on a long overdue company retreat to rest up, make tasty coffee, watch a great film, and talk about the future. Oh and we also took a film camera.

We made a new shirt this year. Yay.

We want our team to be comfortable and rep our company at the same time, so we created some amazing shirts that are now on film sets across the globe. We also want our creatives to start their day off with the most tasty and smoothest coffee, so we made our own, and now you can get in on the buzz.

NATE ALLISON

“2023 has been a path of growth. Being given opportunities big and small to learn in many production realms. This applies not just individually but together. Tommy, Jon and Andrew’s  camaraderie and work ethic has been invaluable, reinforcing the ethos: "Where we go, we go together.”

Our Message to You:

To all the wonderful people that helped make this year special, we want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!
